The story behind the bottle.
Eau Sauvage by Dior, launched in 1966 and crafted by Edmond Roudnitska, is a groundbreaking aromatic-citrus scent that ushered in a new era of men's fragrances. It opens with bright lemon and bergamot, followed by basil and rosemary, creating an invigorating freshness. The heart notes of jasmine, carnation, and hedione add a floral warmth, while the base of patchouli, vetiver, sandalwood, and oakmoss ground it in earthy mossiness. Eau Sauvage is widely recognized for defining the aromatic-citrus category, setting a standard that countless fragrances have sought to emulate.
Eau Sauvage has moderate longevity and sillage, so a light spritz to the pulse points is sufficient. The top notes are vibrant but fade within an hour or two, making it ideal for daytime wear when you want a fresh, invigorating scent that doesn't overpower.
