The story behind the bottle.
The tension in Fables d'Orient lives between two temperatures. Aldehydes and iris create a cold, powdery surface — almost the mineral sharpness of a talc-dusted hand — while amber pulls the composition down into something resinous and warm. Christophe Raynaud built this for L'Artisan Parfumeur in 2021, letting both registers coexist rather than resolving them. A fresh-spicy accord cuts through the vanilla-musk base just enough to prevent cloying, and almond adds a faint green bitterness that reads as unexpected in an amber-heavy structure.
The name suggests Eastern storytelling, and the composition delivers on that: a tale told in layers, shifting as it dries on skin. As a Parfum with moderate sillage, it is concentrated and deliberate — not a scent that fills a room, but one that rewards close attention. L'Artisan Parfumeur, the French house founded by chemist Jean Laporte in 1976, has always positioned itself as a counterweight to industrial perfumery, and this one carries that ethos in its restraint.
As a Parfum, one or two sprays on the wrist or chest will last well past eight hours; the aldehydic top gives way within the first hour, so don't judge it there. The amber-and-vanilla base is the real event — give it time to settle against skin. Moderate sillage keeps it personal, so layer under a coat if you want it to read slightly wider.
