The story behind the bottle.

Scentsation editorial

David Apel crafted Bois Rouge in 2007 for Tom Ford's Private Blend collection — a range designed to push the boundaries of traditional scent-making. The fragrance opens with bergamot, bringing a fresh and zesty brightness that contrasts sharply with the rich leather and patchouli notes that follow. Cedar and jasmine add depth, while lily-of-the-valley brings a touch of floral softness. As it settles into its base notes of amber and sandalwood, Bois Rouge becomes a warm and enveloping scent, perfect for those who appreciate complexity and nuance.

How to wear it

Bois Rouge is best applied in a single generous spray to allow its rich base notes to develop fully. The leather accord projects strongly, so it’s important not to layer too heavily, as this can overwhelm the delicate floral elements. It pairs well with cool weather and evening wear.
