Yves Saint Laurent Y, launched in 2017 and crafted by perfumers Claire Liégent and Dominique Ropion, is a Woody Aromatic fragrance that embodies the brand’s commitment to modern sophistication. The composition opens with aldehydes, bergamot, ginger, and lemon, creating a fresh and spicy aura that feels invigorating and contemporary. As the scent evolves, notes of violet leaf, pineapple, sage, and geranium add layers of complexity and depth, leading into an ambergris, musk, cedar, balsam fir, vetiver, and incense base that grounds the fragrance with a warm, woody presence.
Apply this fragrance with two sprays to ensure the fresh spicy top notes are noticeable at first, but give it time as the warm base notes emerge after an hour. It’s best suited for daytime wear when its invigorating freshness can carry you through the day.
