The story behind the bottle.
Launched in 2015 by Carolina Herrera, CH Men Prive is a fragrance that rode the wave of popularity tied to mid-2010s YouTube and influencer enthusiasm for similarly-toned scents like YSL La Nuit de L'Homme. The composition opens with bright citrus notes — grapefruit and pomelo — before diving into a warm, spicy heart of cardamom, lavender, sage, and red thyme. Leather and woody undertones are layered with benzoin and tonka bean for an amber-vanilla finish that reads as both animalic and inviting.
Despite the initial hype, CH Men Prive's performance in terms of longevity and sillage has often been cited by reviewers as below-average relative to its price point. Yet, it remains a proof of the era’s aesthetic, capturing the essence of warm, sophisticated masculinity.
Apply this fragrance in moderation — the bright citrus opening fades quickly, and the warm base notes take time to develop. It’s best suited for close-up encounters rather than filling a room. Two sprays will do, allowing the nuanced layers to unfold throughout the day.
