Les Absolus d'Orient Oud Essentiel, launched by Guerlain in 2017 and crafted by perfumer Thierry Wasser, is a bold statement in the realm of woody oriental fragrances. The composition centers around oud, bringing an intense depth that is both smoky and resinous. This core note is complemented by warm spices and leather, creating a rich blend that feels both ancient and modern. A subtle rose adds a touch of floral sweetness to balance the earthy complexity, while amber and animalic notes provide a luxurious finish.
This fragrance is best applied in small doses — one or two sprays will allow the complex layers to unfold gradually. The leather and oud notes take time to bloom, so it’s worth waiting for at least an hour before fully appreciating its depth.
