The story behind the bottle.
Launched in 2001, Chergui by Serge Lutens is a fragrance that defined the honeyed 'tobacco-hay' oriental genre. Perfumer Christopher Sheldrake crafted an accord that has been widely imitated and admired, making this scent one of the most reviewed fragrances in the community. The composition opens with a green, smoky tension before settling into a warm base of amber, honey, tobacco, and powdery woods. It's both sweet and earthy, creating a complex interplay that feels at once familiar and distinctive.
One to two sprays are enough — Chergui develops its full character over time. The smoky top notes dissipate quickly, but the honeyed tobacco base lasts for hours. Best experienced close to skin rather than from a distance.
