Launched in 2001, First Pour l'Ete by Van Cleef & Arpels is a floral aldehyde fragrance that captures the essence of a warm summer day. The composition opens with mandarin orange and cassis, creating an invigorating freshness that gives way to a heart of peony and rose, enhanced by the subtle presence of aldehydes. This interplay between bright citrus and soft florals is complemented by a woody base of lily, amber, and Virginia cedar, which adds warmth and depth without overpowering the lighter notes.
First Pour l'Ete has a relatively short-lived citrus opening, so apply it liberally to ensure the floral and woody base notes have time to develop. It's best suited for daytime wear when the warmth of amber and wood can enhance an outdoor setting without feeling heavy.
