The story behind the bottle.
Murmure by Van Cleef & Arpels was launched in 2002, crafted by perfumers Alberto Morillas and Jacques Cavallier Belletrud. This fragrance opens with a bright mandarin orange, creating an initial burst of freshness that quickly gives way to the rich layers of white florals like freesia, jasmine, and tuberose. The heart is centered around the delicate scent of white rose and orange blossom, which adds a subtle sweetness without overpowering the composition. As it settles into its woody base notes of cinnamon, Brazilian rosewood, cedar, and vanilla, Murmure reveals an animalic warmth that grounds the floral bouquet in something more intimate and sensuous.
Apply Murmure with two sprays to allow its layers to unfold naturally. The mandarin top notes fade quickly, so ensure that you wait a few minutes before heading out. This fragrance reads best close to the skin rather than from afar, making it perfect for intimate settings where its nuances can be fully appreciated.
