The story behind the bottle.
Libre Intense by Yves Saint Laurent was launched in 2020 as a warmer, sweeter iteration of the original Libre. Created by Anne Flipo and Carlos Benaïm, this Oriental Fougere fragrance opens with mandarin orange and bergamot before giving way to lush white florals like Tunisian orange blossom and jasmine sambac. The heart is anchored by orchid, while Madagascar vanilla, tonka bean, and ambergris provide a rich, powdery base that reads as both comforting and sophisticated.
Its mixed reception among enthusiasts has made Libre Intense a subject of debate: some find it an improvement for those who crave more warmth and floral notes, while others feel it lacks the longevity of its predecessor. Despite this, it remains a significant offering in Yves Saint Laurent's storied fragrance collection.
One or two sprays are sufficient to capture the essence of Libre Intense. The vanilla and tonka bean notes can be quite prominent initially but settle into a more powdery and floral aroma over time. Given its rich base, it's best worn during cooler hours when its warmth is most appreciated.
