The story behind the bottle.
Cruel Gardénia, launched in 2008 by Guerlain and crafted by perfumers Randa Hammami and Sylvaine Delacourte, is a floral fragrance that plays with contrasts. The opening notes of neroli and rose give way to the lush gardenia, which is enveloped in sweet peach and violet. A woody base of sandalwood and tonka bean adds depth and warmth, grounding the composition in an opulent yet mysterious atmosphere.
This fragrance is best applied in small amounts — the opulent florals can be overpowering if overapplied. It blooms gradually on the skin, so it's ideal for an evening out or a quiet dinner where its nuances can unfold without competing with other scents.
