Who Wears It
The story behind the bottle.
Big strawberry is not a note you expect in a French floral, and L'Interdit 2 (1993) leans into that surprise on purpose. Givenchy released it as a reinterpretation of their original L'Interdit, and the strawberry does the work of making the familiar feel new — bright, almost candied, cutting through the white-floral density of Bulgarian rose, jasmine, and freesia that would otherwise read as a standard 1990s bouquet. What saves it from that is the base: sandalwood, musk, and incense pull the sweetness down into something grounded and resinous, so the scent reads as playful on first contact but contemplative by the time the fruit has faded.
The name means 'forbidden' in French, and the tension lives there — a composition that opens like a bright, sunlit surface and closes like a quiet interior. Strong sillage announces it across a room, but moderate longevity keeps it personal rather than lingering.
The strawberry top is loud for the first twenty minutes — two sprays is enough to avoid a sugar rush. After that, the floral heart and incense base settle close to skin, so the strong initial sillage gives way to something more intimate by hour three. Layer with nothing; the composition is already dense.
