The story behind the bottle.
Neroli Portofino by Tom Ford was launched in 2011 and crafted by perfumer Rodrigo Flores-Roux. This unisex fragrance opens with a vibrant mix of citrus notes — bergamot, mandarin orange, lemon, and bitter orange — that create an invigorating freshness. The heart reveals lavender, rosemary, myrtle, and African orange flower, leading into the warm embrace of neroli, jasmine, and pitosporum. A base of amber, ambrette (musk mallow), and angelica grounds the composition with a subtle yet enduring warmth.
Neroli Portofino has become one of Tom Ford’s most heavily 'duped' fragrances, with numerous budget clone brands attempting to replicate its signature citrus-neroli blend. Despite its popularity, it remains a subject of debate among enthusiasts who praise its refreshing quality but criticize its modest longevity and relatively high price point.
Apply Neroli Portofino in light sprays — its top notes are bright but fleeting. The warmth of the base notes becomes more apparent after about an hour and can be best appreciated close to skin rather than across a room.
