The story behind the bottle.
Launched in 2007 by Shiseido, Zen is a Floral Woody Musk fragrance created by perfumer Michel Almairac. The composition opens with bright citrus and fruity notes like grapefruit and pineapple, giving way to a heart of rose, freesia, and hyacinth that adds a soft floral touch. As it settles, the scent reveals its ambery-patchouli base, which has sparked divided opinions among fragrance enthusiasts — some regard it as an underrated hidden gem, while others find it generic in a crowded category.
Zen's bright citrus opening is fleeting, so apply it in the morning when you want that initial freshness. The ambery-patchouli base develops over time, making it ideal for daytime wear where its subtle warmth can linger throughout the day.
