Alizarin by Penhaligon's, launched in 2016 and crafted by perfumer Christian Provenzano, is a composition that balances the smoky warmth of leather with bright green and citrus notes. The fragrance opens with mandarin orange and mimosa, which cut through the richness of tuberose and iris, creating an unexpected tension between freshness and depth. At its heart lies a complex interplay of oud and incense, underpinned by a rich, animalic base that grounds the composition in earthy sensuality.
Apply Alizarin to pulse points for a more intimate experience, as it reads better close to skin than across a room. The citrus notes are fleeting but vibrant; after an hour, the leather and oud will assert themselves, making this fragrance ideal for evening wear.
